Brief Description of Event:
West Virginia Horse Network, INC. will host an event called "Read to a Rescue". Children from throughout our community will be invited to attend to read books to horses that have been rescued from abuse or neglect here in West Virginia. West Virgnia Horse Network currently operates a leadership program called Barn Buddies which encourages area children to volunteer to help care for and train horses that have been rescued. This program has a proven record of success since it's creation in 2015. Children from our Barn Buddies Leadership Program will help to lead, plan and facilitate this event. In addition to reading to the horses, participants will also engage in kids friendly, safe activities that will help them to learn more about the proper care of horses. We will also have a booth set up with informational packets to recruit new volunteers and potential adopters. These packets will also help educate the community about what to do if they see that a horse is being neglected or abused, safety around horses, the do's and don'ts of horse ownership and more. The packets will include coloring sheets, games and more. There will be no charge for people to attend this event.
