Garfield Elementary School

Brief Description of Event:
Joyful Food Markets take place at 33 elementary schools in Wards 7 & 8, east of the Anacostia River, to reduce hunger and increase access to and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. Presented in partnership with the Capital Area Food Bank, the markets are held once a month, immediately following school dismissal. These markets are joyful community events open to families with children enrolled in that school. As a Joyful Food Market volunteer, you’ll assist with curating a vibrant and joyful space for shopping, support demos of healthy, market-inspired recipes, assist children and families with choosing and learning about fruits and vegetables, and more!
