Conservation Landscaping at Historic Pleasant View

Pleasant View historic church
Event Information
Date:
Saturday, September 14, 2019 - 10:00am to 12:00pm
Event Address:
Pleasant View Historic Site
11810 Darnestown Road
Gaithersburg, MD 20878
Brief Description of Event:
Learn the history of our local African American community while also helping to create a lovely native plant garden. We started this project in 2017 and now have habitat for pollinators, birds and other creatures that also helps to protect water in our local stream. We will be weeding, mulching, and transplanting to prepare the garden for winter. A Master Gardener will be on site to answer your gardening questions. Since the garden is now thriving, it's also a chance to learn what might grow well in your home garden. Students can earn SSL hours -- they should bring a form to be signed. Details for the event and history of Pleasant View available at eartheast.org. Please contact Merikay Smith at merikays@verizon.net if you are part of a group which might want to participate with us. Individual volunteers also welcome -- adults and school-aged youth. Bring your own shovels and hand spades if possible. Dress to work and bring a water bottle (we'll have water available to refill).
