ROCK HILL WARD: Parker Farms Gleaning

Event Information
Saturday, August 25, 2018 - 9:00am to 12:00pm
Event Address:
1623 Leedstown Road
Colonial Beach, VA 22443
Brief Description of Event:
We are organizing volunteers to help gather the useful remnants of a crop from a field after harvesting by the farmer is completed. This process is referred to as GLEANING. Food gleaned will be donated by the farmers to the the Healthy Harvest Food Bank (HHFB). Gleaning is the traditional biblical practice of gathering crops that would otherwise be left in the fields to rot, or be plowed under after harvest. The HHFB then coordinates with 28 pantries and feeding sites to salvage this food for our local residents. Gleaning involves varying level of physical activity, dependent on the crop. All volunteers must sign a release form prior to gleaning in the fields. In case of severe weather or other emergency, we will cancel gleaning the night before the event is scheduled.
