A generous spirit

Some of the greatest joys from service can by found in watching the faces of those giving service. In 2013, the St. Rafael School and Nursery organized a food and supplies drive to benefit the Stepping Stones Shelter. This project was a wonderful opportunity to do some good while engaging children and letting them experience the value of giving service.

It was a joy to coordinate this event because the parents and students of St. Raphael School and Nursery School have such a generous spirit. All we did was send out a list of items that Stepping Stones Shelter urgently needed, and our community pulled through.

We collected supplies (as well as food) listed on Stepping Stones Shelter's urgent-needs list. The students of St. Raphael School and Nursery School brought in 130.6 pounds of supplies. It took three carloads to deliver the donations to the shelter.

Each year, Day to Serve volunteers engage in thousands of such projects across DC, Maryland, VIrginia, and West Virginia. What will you do this year to benefit the world around you?
