The Basics of Day to Serve

Who: Everybody! Yes, that means you, your friends, your faith community, your work colleagues and business, your family, friends and neighbors. The momentum is building. And we need you!

What: Day to Serve is all about volunteering time to help other people. Plain and simple. Look at the needs around you and figure out how you can help. Do you know someone who is hungry? Can you and your friends or colleagues host a food drive? Grab some bags and hit the pavement to collect food for your local pantry. How about a book drive for your local senior center? Or look at the Day to Serve map http://daytoserve.org/map and look at all the great service events already planned in your community. Then, go help make that event an even bigger success. If you create your own event, please fill out this form and add it to the growing map http://daytoserve.org/addyourevent and share what you’re doing. Don’t forget to come back after your event and share your stories, photos and results with us. Celebrating our success is part of the fun!

When: September 11-28, 2014

Where: Everywhere in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Why: Because service breaks down barriers, builds friendships and unites people. And, guess what? It’s good for you! It makes us happy when we help others. And it’s contagious. You do something good for someone and they’ll do something good for someone else and, well, you get the idea. It makes the world a better place. And, at DTS, we’re all about making the world a better, more compassionate place.

How: Browse the events already pinned for ideas. Brainstorm with your families, neighbors, and colleagues and then get out and do some good. Hurry! You don’t want to miss it! Catch the Day to Serve spirit and pass it on. Now!
